I was relying on my original photographer to provide transport to our desired location, but because she dropped out last minute, myself and the director decided it would be easier to shoot as close to the university as possible (most accessible place for everyone to meet). We decided to shoot in talbot woods at dusk because it is quite spooky on a night, especially with the noise from wildlife.

WHAT WENT WELL AND HOW DID I ACHIEVE THIS?

  • I ran the cowl again in silicone and it turned out more successfully than my assessment. I worked quicker when injecting the cowl to ensure all of the product filled the mould. By doing so, I left the silicone in the fridge which prolonged the setting time meaning that I had more time to inject.

  • To conceal the edge of the facial prosthetic and around the mouth, I pre-mixed some cabopatch which I smoothed over the edge. By doing so I created a seamless edge.

  • The edges of the fingers were much less visible than the assessment. I achieved this by re-casting the fingers and firmly pushing the positive fingers moulding into the negative mould to create a finer cutting edge.

WHAT DIDN'T GO WELL AND HOW DID I OVERCOME THIS/WHAT DO I NEED TO CONSIDER FOR NEXT TIME?

  • I did not have enough silicone to re-run the face so the bumpy texture on the forehead was still visible, however, from a distance and in the final film this is not visible.

SUITABILITY TO CONTEXT

  • I am happy that the short film successfully conveys a supernatural theme. The dark setting and eery music create a tense and uneasy atmosphere which is likely to make the audience feel scared. The screaming, disapperance and reappearance of the character also successfully reflect my poltergiest spirit in relation to the my research on the signs of spirit activity. This is also reciprocated in the final shot where the lights disappear, suggesting the spirit has absorbed all of the light source. The use of lighting the highlight my characters face from underneath is also effective as it makes it appear evil and intimidating. It is also effective because it makes the character look like it is glowing to relfect the orb inspired element of my character.

In the facebook group I felt it was important to post call times for all of the cast and crew so that they were aware of meetings and the schedule for the evening. It was important to bring my model in first to prep, at the same time Jesse on costume needed to be there to dress the model prior to the make-up application. After that, I allocated time for the actor and actress who were also taking part in the film.

Screams are a common sign of ghost and poltergeist activity so this reflects the characteristics of my creature well.

'The screams intensify' - this suggests the character is getting closer and relates to the supernatural theme of the film.

'Vague contours of a figure' - ghosts and spirits are never fully formed - particularly if they are inhuman like my character. The disappearing and reappearance of the character also reflects a poltergeist characteristic as they can teleport.

All of the lights going off reflects poltergeist activity as they interfere with electrical occurances and lighting.
